Refreshing Dessert at Chowking

After exploring the Baclaran Church, I decided to have my lunch before moving back to Cavite. Baclaran Church is seated near the Baclaran public market. There are several “carinderias” or local eateries and series of fast food chains everywhere. Though the market is just too crowded for me to enjoy my meal in a local eatery so I decided to try a fast food chain instead.

(Images taken from the web. See how crowded the place is?)

I decided to take my lunch at Chowking. Chowking is a Philippine-based chain that pioneered the Asian quick-service restaurant concept in the Philippines. The concept combines a Western fast food service style with Chinese food. Chowking predominantly sells noodle soups, dim sum, and rice toppings. (source : wikipedia)

I’m not really into Chowking meals but I’m so crazy about their Halo-halo. Halo-halo (which literally means “Mix”) is a popular Filipino dessert that is a mixture of shaved ice and evaporated milk to which are added various boiled sweet beans and fruits, and served in a tall glass or bowl. Ingredients include boiled kidney beans, garbanzos, sugar palm fruit (kaong), coconut sport (macapuno), and plantains caramelized in sugar, jackfruit (langkâ), gulaman, tapioca, nata de coco, sweet potato (kamote), pounded crushed young rice (pinipig). Remember the meal that Milzon and I had last year? Check it here.

So I ordered a regular sized Halo-halo which is Php72.00. Haha I managed to take a nice shot this time.

This dessert is called “Halo-Halo” not just because it is a mixture of different ingredients but because you have to Mix it literally ^_^.

I know that’s too early for me to have a dessert but I just can’t pick much from their menus (check their menus here)but I tried their new “Chinese Sausage Special.” It’s just Php25.00 after all so I gave it a shot.

It was not as appealing as I am expecting it to be but good enough to satisfy my tummy.PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

Well, Chinese Sausage Special is not that special at all. It’s more like a combination of “Longganisa” and hotdog. I just love the “ck” logo on the mantao buns.

I’ve been into different food blogs but I didn’t realized that taking photos of your meal would be this exciting hehe. Whoops! I’m not yet done! I decided to hit “Mang Inasal” for my main lunch but I’m going to post it in a separate entry.

I want the halo halo! The food at ChowKing don't quite look like Chinese food! I think they change it to suit Filipino taste : )
