My First ToyCon Experience #ToyConPh2016

After the series of interviews, it is time to put some music on! This is preceded by American indie pop duo, Heffron Drive featuring Kendall Schmidt and Dustin Belt.

Heffron Drive
P6120006tHonestly, I am not familiar with this band until yesterday and from that day, I have become a fan! Interestingly, the band was formed by Schmidt and Belt way back in 2008 carrying a name that was taken from the street in Kansas where they both live! Schmidt got his biggest break after becoming a part of Big Time Rush and play the role of Kendall Knight (BTR is a fictional boy band series from Nickelodeon). Now that BTR went on Hiatus, Kendall is back with Heffron Drive and also to promote their songs. The duo started to grace the stage with some of their hit songs like Division of the Heart and Parallel! How come these guys aren’t getting the kind of attention they truly deserves?  Anyway, I enjoyed their performances and I wish the best for this group!

Kristian Nairn (Hodor)

20160612_171408tHold the door! Hold the door! Hold the TURNTABLEs! Yeah, Kristian Nairn is in the house but we were so glad to see a different side of this guy. Nairn is best known for his role as Hodor in the hit series Game of Thrones. Little did we know, Kristian outside the realm of Game of Thrones is a professional DJ! He is a  progressive house DJ, and used to be the resident DJ of Kremlin, a gay club in Belfast. (Yeah, he is gay! For those who are not yet aware). He recently went on  a tour called “Rave of Thrones” and he just brought it here in Manila via ToyConPh.  Cheers!

Heneral Luna (John Arcilla)
20160612_174652tBefore the actual Cosplay Contest begun, the cast of Heneral Luna took the stage! John Arcilla in his iconic General Antonio Luna costume is also in his character during their 30 minute stage time while promoting their Special Edition Heneral Luna DVD (the dvd includes special behind the scenes, their audition videos and more). 20160612_175754_Richtone(HDR)tThe appearance of Heneral Luna in ToyCon was so perfect since it was June 12 (Philippine Independence day). Arcilla is also accompanied by Mon Confiado (portrayed Emilio Aguinaldo), a group of dedicated Heneral Luna cosplayers and also the cast of another indie film “Patintero: Alamat ni Meng Patalo”20160612_182505_Richtone(HDR)tThe appearance of Heneral Luna is followed by a Cosplay competition! It features various cosplayers in their amusing costumes. This includes characters like Deadpool, Warmachine, Spiderman and a whole lot more (I decided to put all of these cosplays in a separate entry and I will be postin more about it soon)13454163_10208195203351098_1620406861_nOverall, I really had a great experience with my very first ToyCon event and I wouldn’t mind attending the event next year! How about you , how was your ToyCon experience?

Oh wow this is my thing! I wish I could have actually gone to this toycon. Me and my boyfriend already have some plans for some geeky conventions in the UK this year, but unfortunately PH is a bit too far away haha. Loved the pictures and glad you had fun

I’ve never been to a Toycon although I am a collector of figurines from the Marvel/DC universe and also Tintin. I will definitely attend one of these someday. Nice post 🙂

It was late when I got a notification that there will be a Toycon event happening so I wasn’t able to go. I wanted to go here with my brother because he was obsessed with toys and at the age of 14, he still keeps his legos with him. Haha! I’m more of a person who’s always focusing on the experience I’m going to have rather than the “Ang mahal nung entrance wag na tayo pumunta” person. So Php500 for an entrance? Well, that won’t be a problem! 😉

I’ve never heard about this Con, but there are so much in the world ! And this one is in PH so I guess that’s why Haha. As my girlfriend just said, we love conventions and already planed some, in the UK but she forgot to mention in the US as well Haha. We are fresh newbies though, and will start cosplaying for convention. The only one we made was in Montpellier coz I was working for it. At least we met some actors and comics drawers as I was driving them around. Who knows, maybe we’ll have the chance to do the ToyCon !

This looks like fun. I’ve never been to a Toycon or any kind of convention. I have been to a Renaissance Faire which is the closest I can think of. But I agree that Hodor and Dean Cain are good celebrities for a convention.

This must have been a truly great event for toy collectors and kids at heart. A friend also joined the event and he mentioned he even won second place to one contest. His sons were really proud of him. And it came as a surprise as he just came to the event to have fun. And surely you also had fun.

I’d never heard of toycon before your post today!! Looks super fun though and love that you could have your make up done like a zombie. Did people dress up like they do at other conventions?

Wow, this brings back good old memories of when my college barkada go to Toycon and Comicon together. I remember there were cosplayers then, do they still have those now?
