It was said that my favorite singer, Steven Tyler, will be joining his band again for a series of Tour. This is after the rumors that Tyler had quit Aerosmith to pursue a solo career. Whatever the truth behind these rumors is not so important to me. Actually, I am so excited to see him performing again with his band. Reportedly, Tyler left the band temporarily because he suffered a lot from drug addiction and have to undergo series of therapies and rehabilitation. Actually, this is not my first time to hear a celebrity checked into rehab because of addiction. Even the most famous athlete, Tiger Woods, attended a private rehabilitation clinic to treat his addiction to sex. Other celebrities who have been to rehab include Mel Gibson for his alcoholism, Whitney Houston for her addiction to marijuana, and even Michael Jackson and his addiction to pain killers.
Addiction is not just about drugs. An individual can actually be physically and psychologically addicted to specific substances like alcohol and pain killers. Even the fact that I, myself, can’t live a day without peeking my blogs is already considered as addiction. People can also be addicted to some behaviors like sex, gambling and other vises. Fashion Frames

Eyeglasses serve as the main tool for eye protection and vision correction. Nowadays, this pair of eyeglasses has become more useful and plays a very important role especially in the fashion industry. Just like contact lenses, these eyeglasses are also used as a fashion statement. As you wear your fashion eye glasses it became and formed part of your identity. These eyeglasses may be made either prescription or non-prescription lenses which depends upon your eyesight condition.

So far, I don’t wear any prescription glasses but according to my mom, wearing non-prescription glasses is quite risky and I better start trying to wear eyeglasses as prescribe by an eye specialist and besides there are available fashion frames with wide variety of designs.

I love transparent eye glasses because I feel more comfortable with it. I started collecting eyeglasses when I was in college and I try to buy multiple glasses with different styles and designs so that I can match them up with my clothes.

Speaking of glasses, I just went over to GlassesShop.com to search for their newest and most fashionable eyeglasses.

Look at this Malvern Eyeglasses in which I found in this online glasses shop. Is it so nice? The price is very affordable so as the other glasses. I guess I will encourage my friends to visit their site too!

How to Prevent Eye Damage caused by wearing Contact lenses

Posted By: bluedreamer on November 3, 2009 in health - Comments: 4 Comments »

Nowadays its very common to see all ages of men and women using colored contact lenses. At least half of the time, these are non-prescription contacts, also known as cosmetic, novelty or fashion contact lenses. They used to be quite expensive but because of their increasing popularity, the prices are more reasonable, and there are even cheaper one being bought from Korea as you’ll see if you surf  Ebay Philippines or the multitude of sellers on Multiply.

These lenses are fun to waer and people wearing them have been getting younger, probably because of their current affordability or because parents don’t see the harm in buying them for their children. I think this is perfectly fine, but both the purchasers and the wearers should be aware that cosmetic lenses can damage the eyes if they’re not worn and cared properly. All it takes is a litlle effort to keep your eyesight safe from injuries and infections. If you’re careless with your cosmetic lenses, as ofcourse its even possible to be with prescription lenses, the result could be vision damage and evn blindness.

The best thing to do before buying cosmetic lenses is to have a professional eye exam to find out if you have any eye or vision problem that might make wearing non-prescription contacts harmful and ask them to give you a professional training session and how to use and care for your contact lenses.

Here is a checklist of how to take proper care of your eyes and your lenses:

  • Wash your hand thoroughly before touching your lenses
  • Keep your lens case clean.
  • Disinfect after storage. If your soft contact lenses have been in storage for longer than 12 hours, clean, rinse and disinfect them again using instructions from your doctor
  • Have a regular eye checkups.
  • Replace your contact lenses at the appropriate time
  • Never wear your contacts while sleeping.
  • Never use saliva to wet your lenses.
  • Use the proper products for your contact lenses. Dont use home-made saline solutions.
  • Cosmetic products and lenses don’t mix. Make-up and lotions of any kind should not make any contact with your lenses.
  • Do not allow your lenses to come into contact with cosmentic lotions and creams or spray. It’s best thing to insert your lenses before putting on make up and to remove them before removing your make up.

How to Relax

Some busy people have no time to laughm breathe or rush to toilet when the urge hits them. The results of this all-work, no-play lifestyle are hypertension, cancer and heart disease.

Here are tips to keep you sane and well ( I have read these information froma magazine)  ;

  1. Consume no more than three cups of coffee a day. And nothing after 8 pm ( oh my i am addicted into to coffee and consume more than 7 cups a day, i wonder how will i control myself from this kind of addiction)
  2. Follow the eight hour rule daily. Working beyond eight hours is an injustice to your sense of well-being ( but of course, it’s okay to have an overtime sometimes especially if you’re really required to so it)
  3. Listen to relaxing music and surround yourself with pleasant people! ( so true)
  4. Keep a clean desk in your office! Delegate work.
  5. Drink a glass of water every waking hour.
  6. Visit a spa or healing center. or you can try “Hilot” a filipino term which is a traditional and natural way of massage. This process focusses on the acupressure points of the body.

These tips will somehow help you to fin d way to relax your body and mind and relievs stress brought to you by your heavy work.

Lactose-Free Milk

Calcium is very important for everyone, especially women and children. But for a lactose intolerant like me, i have difficulty in digesting dairy. that is why i’m very thankful that there are dairy products which are 100% lactose-free. by drinking a lactose-free milk, i get the calcium that i need without the discomfort of milk products. Most Lactose-free milk are still rich in calcium and vitamin D with protein, vitamin A and other nutrients. It’s wholesome and delicoious for the whole family.

I used this lactose-free milk in my recipe and all my favorite foods such as fluffy banana pancakes served with maple syrup, caramelized bananas, butter and pecans. Yummy and tempting!

The Science of Sleep

Posted By: bluedreamer on September 23, 2009 in health - Comments: No Comments »

Due to the global economic upheaval, local companies have become competitive when it comes to the services and products that they offer. This rings true especially to those from the business process outsourcing industry.

http://www.thefashionablebambino.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/sleeping-child4.jpg

As a result, more has been expected from employees. After all, bigger output and better quality can always lure in more clients and customers.

With higher demands and heavier job-related pressures, SLEEP becomes less of a priority. Some even develop sleep disorders sue to stress brought about by work.

After all, why sleep is you can spend the waking hours producing more work or at less thinking of ways to improve work?

In reality though, work eventually suffers with lack of sleep. According to some specialist, a sleep deprived person is unable to mulit-task and has an impaired memory.

Studies have proven that sleep is reasonable in storing new information in the memory through a process called memory consolidation. Further studies showed that sleep-deprived people have bigger tendency to fail in newly learned tasks.

So you have to be aware of this and take a time to sleep. In some serious cases, they use sleep enhancers.

IMG1372AVegetables are very healthy and pretty much advisable to eat than poultry meats. They are rich in vitamins and nutrients. I prefer to buy vegetables that are sold in a department store or malls than buying them in a market.

I am assured that they are clean and free from dirt and insects. I love veggies!

The Benefits of Spinach

Posted By: bluedreamer on September 6, 2009 in health - Comments: 2 Comments »

Keeping our family members healthy is not a simple task to perform, it entails continously thinking of what to include in the daily meals to ensure nutrient adequacy.

Among foods that i make sure is available frequently in the family meals, is spinach. Commonly,  this will be incorporated in a soup recipe, the one with sotanghon or “misua” noodles and  sometimes mixed with boild quail eggs and broccoli flowerettes upon serving.

http://gourmetmomma.files.wordpress.com/2009/03/spinachhead.jpg

Just like “Popeye” , i personally feel energized after consumption of this nutrient dense food. This food is considered a nutrient-dense food because of being an excellent source of: Vitamin B, C,A, K, Manganese, Folate, Magnesium and iron. It can also be a source of Calcium, Potasium, Pyridoxine, Amino Acid, Vitamin E, Dietary Fiber, Copper, Thiamin, Protein, Phosphorus and Zinc. Whew! That was a long list of nutrients right? And so, who would not be interested to know what else can spinach give us?

Out there, Scientist have found another exciting health benefit from spinach, and this time, it’s coming from its extract. Swedish researchers have identified a compound found in green leaves (including spinach) that supresses appetite and boost weight lost in lab animals, and could one be used as a functional ingredient to help tackle obesity.

The researchers from Lunds University have identified “tylakoids”, tiny membranes in the choloroplasts and are source of minerals, proteins anf fats,  which appear to inhibit the digestion of fat.  This means the fat stays in the intestinal tract for longer time and sets off satiety signals.

In the test tube studies, experiment showed that the fat digestion was inhibited in the presense of both “tylakoids” and pancreatic lipase, a digestive enzyme. After this experiment, the researchers progressed to animal studies.

Initial test showed that, as the scientists had predicted, the rats ate less, loss weight, and the blood lipid levels decreased.

http://www.growingcommunities.org/images/spinach.jpg

While human studies are still being planned, it is estimated that if they were to use raw spinach as a source of tylakoids, one would have to eat half a kilo of spinach a dayaccording to the researchers.

It sounds outrageous to eat that much spinach in a day, but while we can’t benefit from the satiety of the advantage yet, we won’t lose much if we can really eat more spinach.

Other that its potential to be of use in controlling thr appetite, researchers have already identified at least 13 different falvonoid compounds in spinach that function as anti-oxidants and as an anti-cancer agents. May of these substances fall into a technical category of flavonoids.  Primarily, it is these anitcancer properties spinach flavonoids (which were so impressive) that prompt researchers to create specialized spinach extracts that could be used in controlled studies.

Spinach extracts have been shown to slow down the cell division in stomach cancer cells, and in the studies  on laboratory animals, to reduce skin cancer. There was also a study on adult women iving in New England in the late 1980’s also showed intake of spinach  to be inversely related  to incidence of breast cancer.

Spinach is truly an amazing vegetable, the next time you visit your favorite supermarket, take a bundle of spinach and help your family become energized and protected!

Red Wine may help fight Inflammation.

Posted By: bluedreamer on August 27, 2009 in health - Comments: 4 Comments »

It was said that Drinking red wine may help fight infalmation in the body. Reservatrol, an antioxidant found in red wine protected mice  when they are exposed to a strong inflamatory agent. Mice was used as the major tool for the experiment. Those mice that were not pertreated  with reservatrol developed a serious reaction similar to the inflamatory disorder sepsis.

http://www.farmsteadcheesesandwines.com/lists/uploadimages/june%20newsletters/RedWine-798687.jpg

The study found that it blocks  two major proteins in the body that trigger the inflammation. Strong inflammatory diseases like sepsis are very  difficult to treat and many die every day due to  lack of treatment. Moreover, many survivors of sepsis develop a very low quality of life due to the damge that inflammation causes to several internal organs.

The ultimate goal for this experiment  was to identify a potential novel therapy to help in the treatment of strong acute  inflammatory diseases.

Reservatrol has been widely associated with health benefits ranging from antiaging to boosting antiviral treatments. Previous studies have found that reservatrol can help prevent blood clots and combat cancer,

The antioxidant is found in the skin of grapes but it occurs in greater quantities in red than white wine!
