I used to be a comics lover. I love comics either it’s Japanese Manga or an American Comics like DC. Obviously the two comics have huge differences when it comes to styles and stories. Japanese manga are more exaggerated and usually drawn conventionally while American Comics tend to be more realistic.

Manga are usually printed in Black and White while American Comics are in colored and are mostly printed in glossy paper (except for the older versions like Archie and Friends for example). Manga comes in a small size compare to American comics. Manga is being read differently too because you have to start reading from the back. When it comes to the story, you can easily identify which came from japan and which is not.

When it comes to readership, i can say that both comics are not recommendable for kids. Both of them contains pictures that are highly sensitive and is not advisable for kids. American Comics are more censored in a way that they draw the characters in a very revealing figure while Manga used to tell a story about sex between two males or females.

My favorite DC comics would be The Avengers: League of Super Heroes. My favorite manga would be “Fruit Basket” and “Bleach”.

If you are a book lover, then these tips below might come in handy. Listed below are the tips on proper book care.

1. begin to exercise care the first time you open a book. Lay the book on its back. Open it a few pages at a time, beginning with one side, then on the other. Press lightly along the bound (inside) edge as you turn the pages to minimize the stiffness. It also helps to prevent  “spine” injury.
2. Make a habit of using a book mark instead of turning down page corners, or leaving the book lying face down.
3. Don’t overcrowd book shelves to allow easy removal of books. otherwise the spine will be damaged if you do it by force.
4. Stack flat oversized books such as atlases, art and music books.
5. To preserve their binding, don’t let the books slump on partly field shelves. Use bookends so that they will stand upright.
6. Set books near the front of the shelf to allow air to circulate at the back.
7. Remember that too much heat will dries out books; too much moisture cause mildew.
8. Condition leather-bound books for temperature changes with saddle soap or a fine paste wax. The best time to do it is when the book is new, then repeat every year or every two years.
9. Mend torn pages with gummed rice paper, onion skin or tissue.
10. Dust books every month with a soft clean cloth.
11. Once a year, remove books from the shelves and dust them individually.

I am getting so excited because my friend and I will watch Alice in Wonderland this weekend.  I am a big fan of Lewis Caroll and his famous creation – Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland. Now, I’m getting more excited knowing that Tim Burton, who was also the director of the films “Edward Scissorhands” and “The Nightmare before Christmas”, will be directing a new version of this book, this movie will definitely be a big hit for everyone. I remember myself watching the animated version of Disney. My brother and I keep asking out mom to play that video cassette for us. (Take not, that’s VHS era). However, in this new movie, instead of seeing a young cute little Alice, we will be seeing teenage version of her. Obviously, this is a sequel (but definitely not based on Lewis Caroll books). In this film, Alice, who is now 19 years old, accidentally returns to Underland. There’ll be some changes in the movie. Instead of seeing the Queen of Hearts, there’ll be the Red Queen. Anne Hathaway will play the role of the White Queen while Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter. Mia Wasikowska will portray Alice’s character.

Even we enjoy adapted movies like this; nothing can break the thrill if you will read the actual books. Some of my favorite writers aside from Lewis Caroll would be Roald Dahl and William Shakespeare.

Here’s another book that you should not miss to read. The book was written by Frank Cottrell Boyce and it was entitled “FRAMED”.

In Dylan‘s town, there aren’t many kids. In fact, he’s the only boy and his best friends are pair of chickens. Dylan named his chickens Michaelangelo and Donatello (hmmmm sounds like Mutant Ninja Turltle here) His family is known for making the best pie in town. They own the town’s one and only coffee shop. Life isn’t very exciting in Manod, Wales, but Dylan makes do and it helps that his younger sister, Minnie,is a criminal mastermind in the making. A flood in London makes the National Gallery to evacuate its paintings to Manod, Dylan is mistaken for an art expert( his bestfriends are named after painting geniuses after all), and life is to become a lot more exciting.

Have you read the book “The Secret order of the Gumm Street Girls”? It was written by Elise Primavera. The story starts from 3 young girls Franny, Pru and Cat.

Franny, Pru and Cat have lived in the same place all their lives: Gumm Street in the picture perfect town of Sherbet, where it rains for 45 minutes every summer day at 4pm, followed by perfect rainbow. Sherbet also has a candy store called Colossal candy Bar and an ice cream parlor that is a five stories high. Everything is perfect except for the girls relationship to each other. Franny, Pru anf Cat made a habit of avoiding one another as much as possible. Until a girl named Ivy moves in, and suddenly there’s a big storm(and lots of trouble) looming on the horizon. In the end, the girls pull themselves together to save their town.

Ever since i was a kid, my mom keeps on telling me some short stories before going to bed. I think that’s one of the reason why i am pretty much addicted in reading some short story books. Just like “THE WORST WITCH” authored by Jill Murphy.

The story revolves around a girl named Mildred Hubble. Mildred Hubble has never had an easy time fitting in. Her spells usually turn out completely wrong (Just imagine how Ron Weasley of Harry Potter film cast his spells), her potions are always a disaster, and even her kitten cannot balance on her broomstick!

She’s only in her first year at Miss Cackle’s Academy for Witches (Is there really such thing as “schools fro witches?”), and already she’s been to headmistress’ office more times than you can count. But it is not because she doesnt try. Infact, sometimes she tries so hard, things don’t quite go according to plan. Like time that she and her best friend Maud,  had to make a laughing potion but ended up becoming invisible instead! And now her class is involved in the school’s big holloween celebration. Will she be able to join everyone that she won’t mess up, or are they going to call her the Worst Witch forever?
